The 1st Training Workshop “Introduction to Sustainable Tourism” of the TOURIST Project has been taking place from 2nd to 5th October, hosted by Hue University in Hue City, Vietnam. The training workshop is being delivered by the European Partners (FH JOANNEUM Gesellschaft mbH, Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Alicante) and is being attended by representative from three Vietnamese Universities, four Thai Universities and The Thailand Community Based Tourism Institute.

Hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities (HCM-USSH), the ENHANCE Final Conference "Challenges and Strengths of Research and Innovation Management and Implementation in Vietnam" took place on the 19th and 20th of September 2018, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, organised by International Project Management Office of the University of Alicante. 

The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Manuel Palomar, Rector University of Alicante who thanked Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, president of HCM-USSH and her team for hosting this final event and for acting as national coordinator of the ENHANCE project. 

CIPnet group photo visiting University of AlicanteCIPnet project partners have conducted a study visit to the University of Alicante. This is the second project event, following the Kick-off meeting and study visit to Jagiellonian University in Kraków last March.

The welcome to the Study Visit was given by Prof. Dr. Juan Llopis, Vice-President for International Relations of the University of Alicante. The Study Visit has been attended by Professors of Law, Directors of Research Offices and Directors of Technology Transfer Offices from seven Chinese Universities and also by two representatives from Jagiellonian University, project coordinator.

The 2nd International Conference of the Latinamerican Social Innovation Network took place in Colombia last September. Organized by the Erasmus+ funded project LASIN, of which the University of Alicante is a partner, the International Conference was hosted by the Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina in Bogotá on September 26th, and by the Universidad de Antioquia in Medellín from September 27th to 29th.

 

A Focus Group in the framework of LikeHome project took place on September 14th at the premises of the University of Alicante. The main objective of the meeting was to test the recently developed tool meant to help newly arrived migrants and refugees to find an education opportunity in their new host countries. The group was compounded of the participants originating from Ukraine, Colombia and Russia, as well as professors of the University of Alicante.

Earlier this month the University of Alicante participated in a dynamic social innovation event that took place on September 6th and 7th at Scotland House in Brussels. The event was organized by our colleagues from Glasgow Caledonian University, with the support of the European Commission, in particular the International Capacity Building Unit. They wanted to bring together participants from various points around the globe in order to envisage, propose and, subsequently, to establish a worldwide network that explores and demonstrates how universities can support social innovation more effectively. 

This aspiration evolved through the experience, in particular, of three projects funded under the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education programme, and of which the University of Alicante is a partner: Latin American Social Innovation Network, Southeast Asian Social Innovation Network, and Common Good First in South Africa.

The MOOC created within the framework of the Erasmus + programme - ALDIA Project http://(http://aldia-project.eu/) has been selected in the grant call for innovation projects to promote the blended and online teaching of the Vice-Rector for Quality and Educational Innovation of the University of Alicante (PENSEM-ONLINE PROGRAM).

MOOC Aldia, along with 20 other MOOCs, is part of the MOOC set http://(https://web.ua.es/es/ice/moocs-noocs/mooc.html)approved in this program in order to offer online courses coming from the university perspective on current and diverse scientific issues. In the case of MOOC Aldia, it is intended to guide the teacher/trainer on how to support accessibility and bolster the academic success of students with sensory disabilities in the university and non-formal educational settings (especially in vocational training).

The University of Alicante coordinated project REACT “Strengthening climate change REsearch And innovation CapactiTies in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam”  recently held its third Training of Trainers module and second Regional Round Table in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The event, which also included a 1-day coordination meeting, took place from July 9th to 13th and was hosted by the Royal University of Agriculture.

Members of the FotoH2 consortium met at the facilities of partner Broadbit Energy Technologies in Finland last June, for their first face-to-face coordination meeting after the project’s kick-off meeting last February. This meeting highlighted the excellent progress the project has made in its first six months, particularly with regards to computational modeling and lab experiments, putting it firmly on track to meet its goals and with a clear roadmap to proceed for the next months.

FotoH2 is a Horizon2020 research project, financed by the European Commission and coordinated by the University of Alicante which focuses on the design and development of a photoelectrochemical device capable of producing the direct conversion of solar energy into chemical energy contained in the bonds of hydrogen molecules. Member of TAP project at University of Alicante

From July 11th to July 13th, the University of Alicante welcomed the members of the Erasmus+ Project  “Transforming Assessment Practices in Large Enrollment First Year Foundation (TAP)” group members for its third Project Coordination Meeting, an event coordinated by the An-Najah National University in Palestine and co-funded by the European Union.

The members of the TAP project met at the University of Alicante with representatives of the  International Project Management Office of the University of Alicante to discuss training implementation, review standard course templates as well as policies for first-year education level. The objective of the TAP project is to improve assessment practices on foundational first year education by using technology options, ensuring quality and accreditation as well as implementing large enrolment modules in professional degree programs.
